Florida’s secretary of state could wipe out bonuses for elections supervisors deemed out of compliance with election standards under a provision added to an elections overhaul bill on Tuesday.
The Senate included the amendment in the elections bill (HB 7013) as a handful of supervisors watched from the public gallery in dismay. The supervisors, who had supported the bill, were livid after the amendment, filed Monday by Sen. Miguel Diaz de la Portilla, was approved on a 22-18 vote during floor changes to the bill Tuesday.
