Three Republicans hoping to unseat nationally targeted freshman Democratic Rep. Patrick Murphy raised a combined $98,867 from contributors other than themselves over the past three months — less than one-fifth of Murphy’s cash haul during the same period.
As a narrow 2012 victor in a district carried by Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, Murphy is one of the National Republican Congressional Committee’s top Democratic targets for 2014. But Republican donors have largely remained on the sidelines for the declared GOP candidates while Murphy has been one of the nation’s top Democratic fundraisers.
