Trenia Robinson sat in her car with her godson Thursday night at a Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen west of the city, waiting for their dinner order to be filled.
Then she heard the squeal of brakes and felt the crunch of an airborne white sedan landing on top of her vehicle and another car.
Robinson and her godson escaped serious injury after a driver lost control in the parking lot of the fast-food restaurant off Military Trail, south of Community Drive.
“It was just like a loud, squealing noise,” said Robinson, a West Palm Beach resident. “A loud impact. I can’t even explain it. It’s something like I never heard before.”
Five other people were taken to hospitals following the crash, which happened at about 9 p.m. Their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, a Palm Beach County Fire Rescue official said.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office’s investigation into the crash was not complete Friday, and it has not been determined whether anyone would be cited, a spokeswoman said.
Robinson said she and her godson were trapped in their vehicle but squeezed through a window with the help of bystanders. She described the two of them as shaken up but otherwise unharmed.
“I’m glad to be alive,” she said.
