In 1921, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Deputy George Douglass and his 17-year-old son were trying to arrest a suspected thief in the Glades when both were shot. Douglass died, becoming the first fallen officer in the department’s decades of service.
On Friday morning, his great-granddaughter Louelle Miller was among those to gather at the Sheriff’s Office Fallen Deputy Memorial Wall and pay their respects to Douglass and 13 others who have died in the line of duty since.
