How long have you been principal at the school?
This will be my first year as principal at Plumosa.
Where were you before you came to this school?
I was at Palm Springs Middle School for 10 years. I’m excited for a little change, I think it’s a good thing. I hope that I will be able to make a difference at this school and create a great learning environment for the students to reach their highest potential.
What is your biggest challenge?
Unfortunately this year our grade did drop. We went from an A school to a B school. So our biggest challenge is making sure that our teachers are well equipped with the right material that will ensure the success of every student.
How will you overcome that challenge?
The teachers are going to have to make slight changes toward the presentation of their material so we’re working closely with them to make sure that’s done. We’re also hoping that the parents will have a little bit of patience because this year things are going to look a lot different. There’s a lot more writing expected from the children, and there will be more science and social studies infused into their studies.
What books are you reading this summer?
“Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead,” by Sheryl Sandberg. It’s a great book, but I think it’s mean to appeal to the younger demographic instead of an older one.
What is your favorite quote/motto?
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
