Palm Beach County on Tuesday finalized its takeover of the Glades Utility Authority, ending a year-long battle over control of the financially strapped venture that provides water and sewer service to the county’s western communities.
The county takeover will result in a 6.5 percent rate reduction for residents of Belle Glade, South Bay and Pahokee. Those residents — some of the state’s poorest, on average — paid some of the highest water and sewer rates.
