Shameful. Cowardly. Corrupted. These are some of the words being used to describe Sen. Marco Rubio’s vote against any discussion of gun regulation, and then his votes against even the weak laws proposed.
Floridians may be watching events unfold in Boston. But we have not forgotten the thousands of people who die needlessly every year because of gun ownership regulations weaker than car ownership regulations. The good news is that both the number and percentage of people who own guns is going down, even as the number of guns sold is going up. Word is spreading that a gun in the home is 20 times more likely to be used in a suicide (as in the case of the son of Pastor Rick Warren) or against fellow family members (as in Newtown) than it is for self-defense.
