I wonder what Dr. Martin Luther King would have thought of the noon news on Wednesday, 50 years after his famous “I have a dream.”
Leading the broadcast were the helicopters, Coast Guard vessels and beach patrols searching for people of color who were looking to live out their dream for a better life in America. Their only crime is that they were undocumented; in other words, the law wasn’t on their side. Just as the law wasn’t on the side of many Americans of color in Mississippi, Alabama, and other parts of the Deep South during his lifetime.
