William Congreve was apparently wrong. In reading the accounts of Dolphins owner Stephen Ross’ outrage over the failure of his plan to get taxpayer monies to subsidize his stadium plans, it appears more likely that hell hath no fury like a billionaire scorned.
The hubris is breathtaking. As someone who has used his immense personal wealth ($4.3 billion, by one estimate) to curry favor with Republican leaders (he gave $100,000 to the Romney campaign alone) Mr. Ross professes to be scandalized by the failure of Republican House leader Will Weatherford to pay him back in kind. Dolphins CEO Mike Dee goes so far as to predict that Rep. Weatherford’s failure to toe the line “will follow his career for a long time.”
