Regarding “Scott gets sales pitches on $74.5 billion budget,” it isn’t much compared to the overall budget but a $1 million appropriation would mean a great deal to low-income residents of Palm Beach County and throughout the state.
The Florida Access to Civil Legal Assistance Act (FACLA) was passed with overwhelming bipartisan support in 2002, and the Legislature has appropriated funding for it every year since. The money helps to address the civil legal needs of, among others, abused, neglected and abandoned children, victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking, incapacitated and exploited seniors and individuals wrongfully denied disability benefits. Only those whose incomes are at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty level are eligible.
