The Senate Intelligence Committee is right to delay confirmation of John Brennan as CIA director until the administration provides all the legal opinions pertaining to the drone campaign. Otherwise, there will be no checks on a program with enormous potential for abuse.
In contrast, the Republicans’ temporary filibuster of Chuck Hagel for secretary of defense, ostensibly over Benghazi — in private life then, Mr. Hagel had nothing to do with Libya — makes no sense except as an effort to hamstring President Barack Obama.
