Regarding “Alimony reform sponsors urging Scott to sign bill”: Reports are Gov. Rick Scott is “undecided” on whether to sign Senate Bill 718/House Bill 231, the alimony reform bill recently passed by the Florida House and Senate, stating that he is concerned about women’s rights. He should be.
But he should also be concerned about the rights of women who would like to marry the man they love, and enjoy all the benefits and “rights” that come with being a spouse but cannot do so because of a previous divorce. Current law was written when divorce was not as common, and women were not as prevalent in the workforce. The law needs to be changed, just as we had to change laws regarding horses on the street when that new-fangled, noisy machine (the car) came along.
