Today, Palm Beach County commissioners will be presented with a request from the Friends of the Mounts Botanical Garden to change the name of the garden (“A battle in full bloom.”)
The Mounts Botanical Garden, originally named the Mounts Horticultural Learning Center, has been the place where the public can go to learn what grows in Palm Beach County and about growing and maintaining their plants and trees. In the late 1980s and 1990s, as The Acreage was being developed, the Mounts Garden was the place to go to for information on plant or tree size, water needs, etc. Grass demonstration areas, tropical vegetable demonstration areas and a xeriscape area (in cooperation with the South Florida Water Management District) all helped to educate the public.
