As an ex-government employee, I am amused at the characterization of the sequester and its draconian consequences on our daily lives (“White House outlines effect of deep cuts.”)
We are told of food scarcity and price increases due to the furloughing of food inspectors; of long lines at airports because of fewer TSA agents; of our decreased safety with military unpreparedness, etc. This is known inside the Washington Beltway as the “Washington Monument Ploy,” the threat to close down the most popular government sites and activities in an attempt to arouse public indignation.
