Congratulations to The Post for the editorial “FAU wrong to backtrack.” The person at fault here is Ryan Rotela. He is the one who showed intolerance and insensitivity. What did he hope to gain by going to the media?
I am not Christian, but I would not have stepped on the paper. That was the whole point of the lesson: to recognize the power of symbols. Mr. Rotela was in a class to discuss intercultural communication, but his culture seems to be the only one that’s important. No one was disrespecting his religion. If anything, the lesson points to the power of the word “Jesus.” FAU administrators bowed to critics and did not back instructor Deandre Poole. They were wrong.
