Regarding “Gun background checks deal set,” the proposed background check on gun purchasers sounds good on paper, but it will not accomplish its stated purpose of protecting children, due to two oversights that are not being addressed.
While the database it is based on probably does well in identifying felons who attempt to purchase guns, it is not capable of identifying most individuals with mental problems – the real problem. Individuals with mental problems should be identified early on and put on a do-not-sell-to list.
