Regarding the article “Community would aid economy, environment,” promoting the development of Avenir on the Vavrus Ranch, Avenir is just another subdivision replacing open space/farmland. It is nothing more than urban sprawl fancied up with slick writing, empty promises and wishful thinking.
The article claims that the commercial development will shorten commutes, balance the land-use mix and “sponge up” the traffic from residents who would otherwise travel to the east. Does anyone really think 20,000 residents will not travel east? The only certain way to insure that there will not be a traffic problem is to keep the land use at the current density.
