As a 12-year resident of Abacoa, I have been reading with bemusement the coverage of the possible new baseball stadium in Palm Beach Gardens. While I cannot speak for all of my neighbors, my guess is that if I could they would be as puzzled as I over the complaints.
The main point of contention seems to be that a baseball stadium cannot peacefully co-exist in a residential neighborhood with schools nearby. I invite protesters from Palm Beach Gardens to journey up to Abacoa, where you will find Roger Dean Stadium and many practice fields co-located with many residential neighborhoods and several schools. Spring training provides a much anticipated shot in the arm for our local businesses, as well as a nice bit of excitement in the area. The surrounding fields allow for tournaments throughout the year, which as a resident we feel no impact, but I can assure you that the local businesses are delighted.
