Florida Atlantic University President Mary Jane Saunders’ surprising resignation Wednesday shows that her “traditional academic background” didn’t prepare her for the political issues that go with the job.
A press release noted that in the three years under Dr. Saunders, freshman applications doubled, and FAU opened its medical school. Dr. Saunders also joined civic boards and otherwise increased the university’s outreach. The release noted that FAU had established “three signature themes: Marine and Coastal Issues, Biotechnology, and Contemporary Societal Issues.”
