Wellington will begin interviews next week for a contract compliance officer whose job will be to prevent the kind of error that cost the village more than $183,000. That is a better response than suing Palm Beach County Property Appraiser Gary Nikolits.
Village Attorney Laurie Cohen told the council last week that she would investigate the possibility of a lawsuit to recoup the excesss taxes the village paid for the K-Park property because the village failed to file an agricultural exemption on time. The village has yet to name the responsible individual, but it appears to be former village attorney Jeff Kurtz.
