West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio defends her effort to privatize redevelopment by calling it “transparent.” True enough. It has been clear from the start that the plan was more to give the job to a certain company than to justify the outsourcing.
Surprising no one, Mayor Muoio last week proposed that the city contract with Redevelopment Management Associates. The firm is owned in part by Kim Briesemeister, who until August was the part-time contractor running West Palm Beach’s two community redevelopment agencies. When Mayor Muoio announced her outsourcing push in June, The Post reported that Ms. Briesemeister had bragged to city staffers that the contract would be hers. She and the mayor denied it, but the paper has been vindicated.
