Two years ago, Gov. Rick Scott didn’t think too highly of a $5 million budget item to help build a rowing center in Sarasota. So he vetoed the money, along with hundreds of millions for other regional projects. As he cut a record $615 million from the budget, he ripped what he dubbed “short-sighted, frivolous, wasteful spending programs,” promising to focus state resources on “long-term investments for the future of Florida’s workforce.”
This year, not only did the governor allow millions of dollars for the same private rowing center to remain the budget, he traveled to Sarasota last week to celebrate the project in person, hobnobbing with its planners.
