The Florida Legislature has done the nearly unthinkable: It has passed a sensible law to help to prevent the violently mentally ill from buying guns.
This outbreak of reason on the issue of gun safety would be surprising in any year. After all, the Legislature in recent years passed laws forcing businesses to allow employees to bring guns to work, banning counties and cities from restricting guns in parks and day-care centers and prohibiting pediatricians from asking about firearms in children’s homes.
