Red-light cameras ticketed nearly a million drivers in Florida during the last budget year, and that number is only going to get higher. At last count, the state says, red-light cameras were at more than 400 intersections in 77 cities and counties, with many more on the way.
Municipal leaders claim that these cameras aren’t about the money they generate. But those ticket-spewing cameras issued $135 million in fines, a haul shared by the state government, the private camera operators and the cities and counties that put the cameras in place.
