Four visual arts teachers at Bak Middle School of the Arts privately tutored applicants and imparted insider information about auditions. The report detailing the allegations goes out of its way to claim that even if what the teachers did was wrong, fairness of the auditions was not compromised.
First, it will be a travesty if the allegations are true and the district’s policies are so inadequate that the teachers can’t be disciplined. Second, far from verifying that auditions are scrupulously fair, the inspector general’s report identifies problems that beg for further investigation.
