It would be hard to endorse Steven Holzman for mayor of Boynton Beach if he weren’t running against Jerry Taylor.
For months, Commissioner Holzman was one of two votes against making Lori LaVerriere the permanent city manager. That resistance ended when the other vote, Marlene Ross, resigned in December. Yet Commissioner Holzman still communicates with Ms. LaVerriere only through email outside of public meetings. That began when state prosecutors in January 2012 filed public corruption charges against former Mayor Jose Rodriguez, in part on Ms. LaVerriere’s assertion that Mr. Rodriguez offered to help her get the permanent job if she would make the city’s police department back off an investigation of him.
