For 22 years, the charismatic and enigmatic U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings has represented Floridians in Congress, lately, in Florida’s 20th District.
It’s a large region to represent, extending from Tamarac in Broward County, all the way to Pahokee and over to Riviera Beach in Palm Beach County. As he seeks to extend his run to 24 years, Hastings, 77, of Miramar, has drawn two Democratic challengers who argue that he isn’t seen around the vast district often enough. One of his challengers, Jean Enright, quipped that it would be tough for any senior citizen to run around such a large district.
