Gov. Rick Scott soon must fill a seat on the 4th District Court of Appeal in West Palm Beach. Five of the six candidates have legal qualifications that range from excellent to good. The sixth candidate is campaigning on political qualifications.
On the third page of his 108-page application, Alan Orantes Forst lists his “Conservative Credentials.” Among them are political work for Republicans, a charter membership in the “Conservative Network” and his work for the Federalist Society, a right-wing legal group. He recalls Clarence Thomas “complimenting” him when Mr. Forst worked for the future Supreme Court justice at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
