Tropical Storm/Hurricane Isaac exposed the need to update the area’s flood control system. Money has been proposed for one of those updates, but getting the money may not be the main issue.
As the waters rose last August, a levee on the southern edge of the J.W. Corbett Wildlife Management Area began leaking. As with so many smaller flood control structures in rural Palm Beach County, it was not adequate for what Isaac dumped. The levee is near the intersection of Northlake Boulevard and Seminole-Pratt Whitney Road, which meant that the leak threatened homes in The Acreage.
