The U.S. Supreme Court Tuesday begins two days of hearings on one the most controversial issues facing the country: same sex marriage.
The hearings will involve two challenges to existing laws. Tuesday, the justices will hear arguments on whether California’s ban of same sex marriage, passed by voters in 2008 and known popularly as Proposition 8, violates the constitutional rights of gays and lesbians. A federal appeals court has ruled the law unconstitutional, but voters who supported Prop 8 are challenging that ruling.
