William Loafman signed up for an Obamacare plan in the early weeks, while the healthcare.gov website turned away other customers with its slow speed and error messages. To confirm he had coverage, the North Palm Beach resident called Florida Blue. At first, it had no record of him signing up, but he finally received a confirmation. About a month after choosing his plan, the insurer cashed his check.
Loafman feels confident he has new, cheaper insurance come January. Thousands of other consumers who made it past the frustrating experience of the website are now facing a new hurdle, and they may not know it.
