A 48-year-old man is in custody after he told police he helped rob an elderly woman Saturday night outside a Boca Raton Publix.
Keith Brantley, of Pompano Beach, faces battery on a person over 65 and robbery charges. He is being jailed in Broward County.
According to Boca Raton police, officers were called to the Publix at 1001 S. Federal Highway about 8:35 p.m. When they arrived, the elderly woman told them she had just put groceries in her trunk, moved carts away from her car and had gone back to the trunk to retrieve a recipe when two men grabbed her purse and pushed her to the ground.
She was taken to Boca Raton Regional Hospital to receive treatment for injuries. The woman told police her Louis Vuitton purse and iPhone were among the stolen items.
Authorities caught on to Brantley a few hours later, about 11:30 p.m. Broward County Sheriff’s Office recovered the woman’s cellphone in a car belonging to three suspects who had been arrested in connection with a robbery at a Pompano Beach Publix. Two of the suspects refused to speak to police, but Brantley told officers he was involved in the Boca robbery.
