Stephanie Hughes started crying in her car as she pulled into the parking lot at work Thursday morning. It wasn’t the first time, either. Where she works — St. Mary’s Medical Center — is also where she was brought after her near-fatal motorcycle crash in March 2012.
She and other trauma survivors were attending a luncheon with the doctors and nurses who helped bring them back to health. Hughes and the others told stories about how the trauma teams saved their lives, and the staff returned the compliment, conveying their admiration for the grit and determination of the survivors and their families.
