For the second time in the past year, the state’s Board of Education has turned to Pamela Stewart to step in after the state’s top school official abruptly quit.
The board on Friday unanimously appointed Stewart, who has been working as the chancellor of public schools, to serve as interim commissioner of education after Commissioner Tony Bennett resigned Thursday.
