Although the J.W. Corbett Wildlife Management Area often makes headlines as a player in a proposed gun range and the site of a berm that nearly breached, a public hearing on the future of the popular wildlife area attracted just two dozen people Wednesday night.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which is developing a 10-year management plan for area, held the meeting to hear public comments on its draft plan. The first of 15 challenges identified by the commission concentrated on retaining staff by building employee housing. That idea was nixed by some who do not want to see construction in the area.
