Reader and former Palm Beach County resident Pattie Benedix, now of Pickens. S.C., asked about a former polo grounds just south of Palm Beach International Airport.
We know from our archives that, in 1954, New York state polo player Frederick Collin acquired 540 acres at Dillman Road, between Congress Avenue and Military Trail, for the Palm Beach Polo Club. It opened that December. Only five years elapsed before Collin sold off his property for the Polo Grounds Shopping Center, at South Military Trail and Summit Boulevard.
