Ray Thompson’s name was engraved on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington this week but it was already etched in the heart of his widow and the esteem of many patients he helped at the Veterans Hospital in Riviera Beach.
Thompson connected with the veterans because he spent serious time in such hospitals himself after being gravely wounded June 6, 1969 in Vietnam, where he was an Army radio operator. He was 21 years old at the time.
