JOSÉ RODRIGUEZ, 50 : Elected city commissioner in 2006 and mayor in 2010. Suspended the day after his Jan. 26, 2012 arrest on charges he pressured the city’s police chief and interim manager to stop an investigation into allegations he abused his then-11-year-old stepdaughter. Investigators declared the allegations unfounded, but Rodriguez was charged with misusing his power. And on July 16, prosecutors charged he defrauded a bank when he did a “short sale” of a Palm Beach condominium but actually sold it to a relative and, in effect, back to himself. He’s declared his innocence in both cases.
ROGELIO VERA, 48. The former high school friend of Rodriguez went to federal prison on drug charges. State records show some 20 arrests dating to 1983, on charges ranging from larceny to drug possession.
FERNANDO WALTER CARMONA, 44: Former owner of Platinum Showgirls. Went to prison for three years for laundering money from prostitution and then was deported. His mother, Norma, sued Vera and Reguez Investments, the real estate company Rodriguez created.
LAZARO HERNANDEZ, 48 : The home inspector claims childhood friends Rodriguez and Vera bilked him out of his life’s savings. Hernandez served two years in prison for a 1982 drug trafficking charge and also has convictions for a 1982 Palm Beach County check forgery charge and a 2001 battery charge.
