The I Love Jewelry store at Downtown at the Gardens has closed, but the founder has discovered her calling selling trendy, personalized clothing online under the same name.
Some people aren’t happy with the time it’s taking to get their goods.
Owner Jordann Weingartner acknowledged some growing pains and said she’s focusing her efforts on improving the online store, which sells monogrammed clothing and jewelry. The “craze” began with a faux fur vest and then a cowl neck sweater that sold like crazy last fall.
“We created our own kind of niche business,” Weingartner said. “We kind of have an edgier look.”
I Love Jewelry’s Facebook page is scattered with complaints from people who said they paid for their orders but haven’t received the products they bought weeks earlier. The Better Business Bureau’s summary of customer complaints indicates a pattern of consumers who allege I Love Jewelry doesn’t deliver purchased items.
Some of the people who commented on the Facebook page say they had to wait more than a month to get their order, but they were happy with the products when they arrived. Many of the buyers are from other areas of the country. Weingartner points out the “About Us” page on the store’s website advises people to allow two to four weeks for personalized items, and that it may take longer for handmade and personalized items.
In July, I Love Jewelry moved into a 5,000-square-foot warehouse in West Palm Beach, where the jewelry is customized and the clothing is embroidered for the online orders. The store at Downtown at the Gardens that went by the same name just sold fashion jewelry and clothing, Weingartner said. It closed a few weeks ago.
It was only intended to be a pop-up to sell off the fashion jewelry, but the family business enjoyed being there and signed a lease to stay, Weingartner said. The store occupied a space across from the future home of Manhattan Beach Grill. Downtown at the Gardens Director of Marketing Kendall Rumsey said the outdoor shopping center could announce a new tenant within the next month or two.
She said I Love Jewelry has had some growing pains. When the vest and the sweater “started the craze” for customized clothing, people in the community were doing the embroidery. I Love Jewelry now has six industrial embroidery machines and is waiting for the delivery of four more. There’s a day and night shift to do the personalization from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. The business with about 20 employees gets 1,000 to 2,000 orders a day.
“We’re family run,” she said. “We’re a small business, but a growing business.”
