Family Vision Center has gotten the go-ahead to build a medical office space on State Road 7, about a mile or two south of Forest Hill Boulevard.
The conditional-use permit the village council granted Tuesday allows for 5,000 square feet on a one-acre site near Life Church and Farmington Estates.
The land had been zoned for 3,700 square feet of financial offices.
But the site’s location “mid-block,” as a land planner representing the eye center put it, makes it unattractive for a bank to open there.
About 1,500 square feet of the building will be leased to professional offices or other medical offices, said Donaldson Hearing, of Cotleur & Hearing.
Dr. Lori Mazza, the primary optometrist who will work at the center, met with neighbors and worked out plans to buffer their property. An 8-foot-tall wall will run along the south and west border of the property.
Wellington staff also recommended a one-story height limitation, about 35 feet, and setting the building at least 100 feet from the neighboring community.
Wellington Chamber of Commerce President Alec Domb said the center would be “a great addition.”
The practice is now located at Jog Road and Forest Hill Boulevard in Greenacres.
