Hoping to secure Southeast Florida’s hold on spring training baseball, County Commissioner Hal Valeche plans to meet with County Administrator Bob Weisman after the New Year’s break to map out strategy for finding a site for the Houston Astros and Toronto Blue Jays.
Palm Beach Gardens officials, rebuffed by residents’ complaints about the Astros’ favored site off Central Boulevard, urged the county on Dec. 19 to take the lead in site selection. The complex would require land for 12 practice fields and a stadium to be shared by the teams, which would move from their longtime homes in Kissimmee and Dunedin, respectively.
