News item: The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission announced that it was discontinuing the Python Challenge, an amateur snake hunt that offered cash prizes to people who killed pythons found in the Everglades.
A commission spokesman said that last year’s hunt met the agency’s primary goal of raising awareness about the python problem, so there was no need to conduct another open-to-the-general-public snake hunt in the Everglades.
