Shanon Materio entered this month’s West Palm Beach commission race against Gregg Weiss with the power of the incumbency but the challenge of facing an established opponent backed by Mayor Jeri Muoio.
With only 5,139 ballots cast citywide, Materio won the race by dominating in her home turf on the city’s south end and competing in the coveted western communities, which — as in recent years — had a greater turnout than any other area in the city.
