After Gregg Weiss rattled off a list of his community activism efforts at a city commission debate this month, his opponent Shanon Materio jokingly implied that Weiss was trying to portray himself as Superman.
“Wow, I’m expecting him to take his jacket off and there’s no S under there, huh?” Materio said. “No spandex?”

Political: Appointed to city commission in 2012.
Issues: Does not support city staff’s recommendations on resolving short and long term water supply and instead supports hiring a consultant for commissioners to consider alternatives; Does not support the approval of 20- and 21- story condos on North Flagler Drive until the Broadway business corridor is improved; Opposes the extension of State Road 7 near the city’s water catchment area.
Personal: 56, lives in Flamingo Park. Married, no children.
Education: Bachelor’s degree, economics and Bachelor’s degree, social ecology at University of California-Irvine.
Professional: Retired in 2000 as director of product division for Ingram Micro Inc in Santa Ana, Calif.

Issues: Supports leaving the consortium of cities overseeing the OpenSky police radio system and having West Palm Beach run its own system; Supports the approval of 20- and 21-story condos on North Flagler Drive only if neighboring residents also support it; Opposes the extension of State Road 7 near the city’s water catchment area.
