A law designed to help local hospitals collect unpaid medical bills by filing liens against their patients’ insurance settlements may soon come before Palm Beach County Commissioners.
Commissioners last week directed the county attorney’s office to research a “hospital lien law” that would give hospitals first claim to settlements from car accidents and other court judgments awarded to their patients as a result of either an accident or an injury.
