The Florida Atlantic University instructor who asked students to write “Jesus” on a piece of paper and step on it as part of an intercultural communications class says he hopes to continue teaching at the school and doesn’t want the firestorm surrounding the exercise to define his career.
Deandre Poole spoke to The Palm Beach Post editorial board Wednesday about the “Jesus” exercise that created a national uproar two weeks ago. Poole said he’s received threats and hate mail and doesn’t believe FAU, which apologized for the exercise and dropped it from its curriculum, has been supportive of him.
