The Wellington High Chorus will perform in a benefit concert at 7 p.m. Friday in the auditorium. A silent auction will also be held. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased from any chorus member, at the door or by emailing email@example.com. The event will raise funds for a trip to New York City in May to perform at the Lincoln Center.
SEMINOLE RIDGE HIGH
The Drama Department will hold its annual “Take Five,” a compilation of musical numbers, acting scenes and a one-act play, at 7 p.m. today. Ticket are $5 at the door and can also be purchased prior to the performance from any drama student. Children are not encouraged to attend because of the possibility of mature content or subject matter. All pieces containing sensitive material will be announced prior to the performance.
TV production students competed recently at the Florida Scholastic Press Association district convention in Deerfield Beach. Winners included: first place, On-The-Spot Script Writing, Samantha Belohlavek and Jezebel Perez; honorable mention, Carry-In Creative Commercial, C.J. Bates, Nataly Berdecia, Connor Nugent and Jezebel Perez; honorable mention, On-The-Spot Video Editing, Anthony Gugliotta and Connor Nugent. Connor Nugent was elected FSPA District 7 representative and will represent Palm Beach, Martin and Broward counties at all state planning meetings.
TV Hawks also racked up awards in the fall FSPA state digital contests: All-Florida, Broadcast Commercial, Jovany Ponce De Leon, Noah Pentz,and Scott Wolosyn; ranked “Excellent,” Event Coverage Video Package, C.J. Bates, Nataly Berdecia and Ricky Bong; honorable mention, Sports Event Package, Connor Nugent.
ELBRIDGE GALE ELEMENTARY
Students took home first place in the district Equations Tournament. Austin Lee had a perfect score in every round, winning the first place trophy in the individual competition. Ian Dowling competed at the middle school level and came in sixth place, allowing him to qualify for the state or national competition. Szander Brenner finished in fourth place. Jack Berman and Bradford Beaubrun finished with honorable mentions. Team members also included Kieran Abesamis, Alessandra Grace, Patrick McCue, Ethan Nelson, Ethan Sanchez, Antonio Selva, Varak Vansh and Raghav Venkat.
Four students in the district earned top finishes in the Stewards of America Essay Awards. Winning first place in the middle school competition was Sarah Palumbo, who attended Eagles Landing Middle last year. First place winner at the high school level was Jhanelle Bisasor, a senior at Suncoast High. Wellington High students Laurie Laborde and Stephanie Maravankinwon got second and third place, respectively. The contest promoted the mission of Stewards of America, which is to conserve natural environments for the next generation by inspiring the future Stewards of America.
The district named outstanding volunteers of the year, honoring a student, adult and senior for their service to the schools. The Outstanding Student Volunteer of the Year is Harrison Harward, a senior at Suncoast High. Lenore Hodges is the Outstanding Adult Volunteer of the Year, nominated by Alexander W. Dreyfoos Jr. School of the Arts. Steve Berman, who was nominated by Seminole Trails Elementary, is the Outstanding Senior Volunteer of the Year.
