As the Palm Beach County School District and its teachers have been engaged in highly publicized negotiations over raises for the past several months, a different fight over job security is bubbling just below the surface.
The Classroom Teachers Association, which represents the district’s 12,000-plus teachers, says it is fighting to get back some of the job security the state Legislature took away in 2011 — when it created merit pay — and protect its members from the whim of principals.
