Florida Atlantic University President Mary Jane Saunders said Tuesday that the rescinding of a $6 million donation by the private prison company GEO Group will not harm funding for academic programs at the school, but she admitted that FAU needs to improve its image after several public relations debacles this year.
The university announced late Monday that the agreement by which GEO, a Boca Raton firm, would pay the school $500,000 yearly for 12 years, in exchange for naming rights to the university football stadium, was vacated after GEO’s human rights record came under attack.
