The Flagler Memorial Bridge will stay open, and be reinforced, while crews continue to build a new bridge, state transportation officials announced this afternoon at special meetings in Palm Beach and West Palm Beach.
Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Ananth Prasad told Palm Beach council members that workers will reinforce the bridge with a “redundant foundation” by driving micropiles into the Intracoastal Waterway around existing piers. The micropiles would support the bridge, making the old timber piles currently holding it in place irrelevant.
